Strong response to NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan
More than 1100 formal submissions have been received during public consultation as part of the development of the NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan, Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay said today.
The plan will identify a clear direction for transport over the next 20 years, building on the NSW Government’s current commitments. It will identify the integrated role of each transport mode – including roads, public transport and active transport - in meeting future needs and help develop a freight network that maximises the benefits to the economy.
Ms Berejiklian said more than 1100 submissions were received from residents and commuters, industry, businesses, community groups, local Government and other parties since a discussion paper was released on 24 February.
“We have been overwhelmed by the response and we thank everyone who made a submission for their efforts,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Transport for NSW is now closely reviewing each submission as it develops the draft NSW Long Term Transport Master Plan, which will be released for public comment mid-year.”
Mr Gay said the submissions process was part of a wide consultation program which included 14 public forums around the state, regular strategy meetings with specially-formed advisory groups, one-on-one consultation, an online survey and social media.
“The Minister for Transport and I have between us attended the 14 regional forums around NSW and have heard the thoughts and ideas of more than 1000 people who have attended those forums,” Mr Gay said.
“It was particularly important for the people of regional NSW to have their say around issues like freight, road safety and public transport services.”
All of the feedback and discussion at those forums has been written down by Transport for NSW and will be used in the development of the draft Plan and future regional transport plans.
There have been more than 53,000 site visits to the official website at www.transportmasterplan.nsw.gov.au and more than 8000 downloads of the discussion paper have occurred.
