Financial and Professional Business Services

 Finance and Business Attraction Initiative

As a major hub of the global financial & professional services markets, Sydney is home to many of the world’s leading companies and supporting service providers in the banking, finance and business consulting sectors. RDA Sydney identifies that as the city grows, focus must be given to ensure more equitable access to financial and professional business services. A greater contribution of these industries is needed in areas such as Sydney’s growth areas as well as the further development of the finance and business services hubs located in Parramatta, Norwest, Penrith and Liverpool in keeping with the NSW Governments City of Cities metropolitan plan 2005.

Goal: the goal of this project is to identify impediments to the future development of this industry sectors and develop place- based solutions to address these barriers. This can be achieved through the engagement of local stakeholders in order to develop capability within defined clusters, to promote best practice, increase local representation and to retain, grow and attract businesses to the target areas. The planned result will be growth of financial and professional business services enterprises and new employment across Sydney.

Update: a series of 7 workshops have been facilitated by RDA Sydney, in partnering with key local Councils, business organisations and agency stakeholders to document and develop solutions specific to regional hubs across the greater Sydney region. Workshops have taken place in Norwest, LIverpool, Parramatta, Penrith, Campbelltown and Sutherland (see below for notes), with the most recent workshop taking place at Ingleside, Northern Sydney.

Health, Aged and Community Care

New interest Group

RDA Sydney has conducted consultations with a wide range of stakeholders in the health, aged and community care sectors regarding workforce development issues across Sydney. The ageing population, increasing demand for health, aged and community care, and technological innovations are all challenges affecting the sector in general, and workforce development in particular. Innovative approaches to health and health care are important in an effort to develop a sustainable system.

Goal: RDA Sydney to join with other key stakeholders to form an interest group to consider workforce development issues in the health, aged and community care sector with a view to identifying new skill requirements as the sector develops, as well as areas of shortage, both current and future. Based on findings, to work with relevant organisations to develop solutions.

Update: RDA Sydney and key partners have formed a Western Sydney Health, Aged and Community Care Employment and Skills Interest Group with the aim of bringing together key stakeholders in the health, aged and community care sectors, as well as industry, e-health and government to anticipate and plan the workforce requirements for innovative models of healthcare and community care that will reduce the financial and social burden of chronic disease on the whole community. In particular, to consider new skills that will be required for models that focus on self-managed care and support, including the skills needed to develop and implement e-health strategies in the community.   A forum focusing on key issues has already taken place and presentation notes along with an update on current status will be posted below shortly.
