
RDA Sydney promotes well developed infrastructure and planning, skills development, education and the need to better understand each others industries and businesses. By acknowledging this overview, it allows a platform of collaborative and ‘big picture’ processes which can encourage investment, sustainable growth and economic development within Sydney.
- There were an estimated 426,262 actively trading businesses in the Sydney Region in June 2007. Over 32% were involved in the property and business services sector, followed by construction (15.0 per cent) and retail trade (10.4 per cent)
- There were over 136,500 businesses in the property and business services sector in June 2007. With an estimated 243,400 people employed in the sector in 2006, the majority of businesses are self employed or small companies with a smaller tier of major corporations
- The construction sector also has a relatively low ratio of employment to businesses indicating a large number of self-employed builders and tradesmen
- There were almost 22,000 manufacturing businesses in the Sydney Region in June 2007 employing approximately 165,500 people. This indicates that the average sizes of manufacturing businesses are considerably larger than service sector businesses
