Feasibility of Urban Farming in Sydney
RDA Sydney joined forces with Bayside Council to support a UTS student team investigating the feasibility of establishing urban farming in Sydney’s light industrial lands nestled in between residential and commercial properties in high-density areas within the city’s east.
The Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation or BCII students kicked off the project with an examination of case studies and urban farming models across the globe. The team quickly shifted their attention closer to home and focused on the start-up sector in nearby Eveleigh and gained insights from entrepreneurs and research companies experimenting and growing food from indoor farms, disused shipping containers and warehouses.
Keen to receive feedback from the local community the BCII students developed a questionnaire and produced a series of social media videos to promote urban farming and gain insights to inform the project.
RDA Sydney is looking forward to their final report and recommendations. Fingers crossed we see more urban agriculture in the city soon. For more information <insert link to RDA Sydney Urban Farming and City green article.
